The McDonnell Douglas MD-11/MD-11(F) are variants of the MD-11 trijet, a successor to the McDonnell Douglas DC-10. Like the DC-10, the MD-11 has three engines but boasts winglets, an extra set of landing gears, and a glass cockpit. Following the footsteps of the DC-10, the MD-11 was once a prominent, long-range, high-capacity passenger airliner but as time passed, it found it's second life as a cargo freighter for many airlines across the world. Again, like the DC-10, due to the introduction of larger, more fuel efficient, twin-engine, wide-body aircraft, the MD-11 saw it's passenger role diminish over time but given it's high maximum take off weight (MTOW) and increased power with the third engine, it quickly became a great freighter aircraft (as denoted with the (F) designation) having one of the highest capacity's of cargo ever amongst passenger-to-cargo aircraft designs.
