The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 is the second variant of the MD-80 family. It is very similar to the MD-81 in terms of size and capacity but it has some design & operational improvements including more powerful engines. Like the MD-81, the MD-82 typically flew short to medium range routes with moderate demand. Once commonplace around the world, most MD-82 aircraft have either been converted into freighters or have been retired & replaced with more fuel efficient and/or higher capacity aircraft.
