The Airbus A340-500 is a wide-body aircraft and a variant of the A340 family of aircraft. The A340-500 is smaller than the '600' but bigger than the '200' & '300' variants. When it comes to seat capacity, the '500' is second most in the series but boasts increased range. The A340-500 was the longest range aircraft in the world until the introduction of the Boeing 777-200LR. The A340-500, like all A340's, is a four engine aircraft but is only one level as opposed to other aircraft with four engines. With four engines, the A340 is losing popularity with airlines as two engine aircraft with similar or more capacity are quickly becoming more efficient to use. All A340 variants are no longer in production. This aircraft is designed to fly very long haul routes with medium to high demand.
