The Boeing 737-900 & 737-900(ER) are narrow-body airliners and variants of the Boeing 737 Next Generation series. These variants, like other 737's in the Next Generation series, features the same upgraded engines and overall improvements that the other variants have however it's fuselage is not like any of the Classic series and is the first stretch of the 737 since the Boeing 737-400 making them the longest variants in the series. This 737-900(ER) is the newest and latest variant in the Next Generation series with the 'ER' standing for Extended Range allowed for increased flying range and capacity over the base variant. The 'ER' improvement/variant made it possible replacement candidate for aging Boeing 757-200 aircraft. The (WL) designation stands for Winglets which were not standard on initial 737-900 examples but introduced on later builds and on the 737-900(ER) as standard. The 737-900 was less popular than the 737-900(ER) which was due to the minor increase in seating capacity and shortcomings in range versus the Boeing 737-800. The 737-900 typically flies short to medium haul flights that have high demand while the 737-900(ER) typically flies medium to long haul flights that have high demand.
